Summary: The Elephant in the Room wines are proudly large in scale and expansive in flavour. Ignoring fashion and braving the scorn “wine thought police” Elephant in the Room was created to give wine loving consumers exactly what they want – full bodied and mouth-filling wines that deliver maximum pleasure. Newly released, the Elephant in the Room Flower Power range is a pair of biodynamic, vegan friendly and organic wines from Mount Benson, SA including a Pinot Gris and a Shiraz.
Vineyards: Sourced from Biodynamically farmed organic vineyards in the Wrattonbully region, situated
in the Limestone Coast area of South Australia.
Winemaking: Fruit was picked and sorted, then pressed off into open fermenters. Plunged daily with
some time on skins to lend colour before spending time in stainless steel prior to bottling. Bottled without preservatives to ensure fresh, drink now style.
Vintage 2021: If 2020 was all about the heat, then 2021 will be remembered as the wet season. In many parts of Australia, it was unseasonably wet in winter but not at critical times to do damage nor impact the resultant ripeness of the grapes. A cool and dry summer meant even ripening was achieved between dry and rainy spells and the ensuing fruit quality was excellent and for once yields were up making for a bumper harvest in 2021.
Tasting Note: On the nose this is riot of red and black fruits. A full-bodied Shiraz that remains fresh and unburdened by oak. It’s rich and satisfying with dark berry flavours and nicely weighted on the long,
satisfying finish. Awesome with a charcuterie or cheese plate.
