The name Pellegrino is a household name in the wine world of Sicily. The family business was founded in Marsala in 1880 by Paolo Pellegrino. Meanwhile, Pellegrino has grown into a sizeable company with a total of 400 hectares of vineyards in its own possession, spread over the best parts of the island, especially in the western part. More than 60 percent is intended for domestic consumption, the rest goes abroad.

Sicily was already an important wine producer in Roman times. Southern Italy was then called 'Oenotria' (wine country). The heart of Carlo Pellegrino beats in the historic wine cellars of the old town of Marsala.

This is where the famous Marsala comes from, which is made from indigenous grapes such as grillo, cataratto and inzolia.

In addition to the Marsala, Pellegrino produces under the name Duca di Castelmonte a complete series of excellent wines from autochthonous grape varieties (including inzolia, grillo, nero d'avola) and international varieties such as pinot grigio, chardonnay, cabernet sauvignon and shiraz.

To get to know Sicily better, Carlo Pellegrino has the philosophy of combining Sicilian grape varieties unknown to us with well-known international grape varieties. In this way Sicily will become more known and there will be a greater variety in the offer.

Two successful combinations of grape varieties are the Grillo-Pinot Grigio and the Nero d'Avola-Shiraz. topSlijter selected these blends that are marketed under the name Parthenium.
