The story of Malfy Rosa Gin

Malfy Rosa comes out of Torino Distillati, a distillery in Moncalieri on the outskirts of Turin. It is a family distillery run by the Vergnano family, who have been making gin there since the 1970s. Rosa is the Italian word for pink, and the gin arrived in the UK in 2018.

Its colour and character come from Sicilian pink grapefruit. The peel is infused with juniper in neutral grain spirit for 36 hours, then run through a vacuum still for five hours, which keeps the temperature low and the citrus fresh. Italian lemons, angelica root, orris root and coriander round out the botanicals. The result is a pale pink gin bottled at 41 percent, in a frosted bottle marked with five rings that stand for the grapefruit peel.

Malfy presents Rosa as an aperitivo gin. A simple serve is 50ml over ice with about 150ml of Mediterranean tonic, finished with a grapefruit wheel and a sprig of rosemary. Soda can stand in for the tonic for a drier, lighter glass.
