The story of Stolen Dark Rum
Stolen Rum is a New Zealand brand, launched in 2010 by Jamie Duff and Roger Holmes. Stolen Dark joined the range on 1 October 2012, after the gold, white and overproof rums, and won a silver medal at the New York International Spirits Competition the following month.
Holmes is the palate behind the blends. Dark is a blend of selected dark molasses based rums, put together by hand as a nod to the traditional dark rums he grew up with. It was made richer in flavour and aroma than the rest of the Stolen range but still smooth. The label describes it as premium aged rum with centuries of Caribbean rum heritage, bottled at 37.5 per cent in one litre.
Dark rum is a mixing rum. Pour it over ice, or build a long drink with cola or ginger beer and a squeeze of lime. The black label with its hand drawn lettering comes from the brand's deliberately low fi look.
