      The story of Asahi 12x330B

Asahi Super Dry was launched by Asahi Breweries in Japan in 1987 and brought the idea of karakuchi, or dry, beer to the Japanese market. The company itself dates back to 1889. Super Dry went on to become its flagship and Japan's top selling beer, and it helped Asahi overtake Kirin in sales and profit.

It is a highly attenuated lager, which means the yeast ferments most of the sugar out, leaving less heavy malt character and a crisp, dry finish. Asahi uses its own yeast, strain No. 318, picked from its yeast library for crispness and strong fermentation, along with barley, maize and hops and Japanese brewing methods. The aim was a draught style beer with a smooth body and a sharp, clean flavour. This one is 5 per cent alcohol.

These are 330 ml bottles, sold as a case of twelve. Keep it cold. The clean, dry profile suits salty, savoury and lightly spiced food, and it pours easily without the weight of a heavier malt beer.
