The story of Seagers

Seagers comes from Seager Evans and Co., a London gin house founded in 1805 as a partnership between James Lys Seager and William Evans, who were both in their twenties. Their first distillery was the Millbank Distillery on the Thames, where the firm stayed for more than a century before moving to Deptford in 1922. In the late 1920s the company expanded into South America and Oceania, opening a gin distillery in Chile in 1929 and one in Brazil in 1934.

By 2005 Seagers was one of Allied Domecq's New Zealand spirit brands, sold alongside Beefeater gin and Teacher's Scotch. The style is a classic London dry profile: juniper first, then angelica and a crisp note of lemon zest, with a warm finish.

Juniper has to be the leading flavour in any gin, and Seagers shows it plainly, which makes it a good fit for long drinks. Pour it over ice with tonic for a gin and tonic, or use it in a Tom Collins or a Gin Rickey. It is best kept out of a Martini.
