The story of Sailor Jerry Spiced Rum

Sailor Jerry is named for Norman Collins, a tattoo artist born in Reno, Nevada, in 1911, who enlisted in the US Navy at 19 and later settled in Honolulu, where his last studio was on Smith Street in Chinatown. He died in 1973 and is remembered as one of the people behind American Traditional tattooing, with its ships, anchors, swallows and pin-ups. The rum draws on his art, and William Grant & Sons has owned the business since 2008.

In the bottle is a spiced rum made from a blend of Caribbean rums, flavoured with natural spices. Vanilla and cinnamon lead the aroma, with a rich, round sweetness behind them.

It is easy to use. Pour it over ice with a squeeze of lime, or build the brand's own serve, a Jerry and cola. Ginger beer works too, and so does a fruity rum punch.
