The story of The Botanist Islay Dry

The Botanist is made by Bruichladdich Distillery on the Isle of Islay, and it was first made in 2011. It is described as the first gin ever made on the island, from a distillery better known for whisky.

The recipe uses 31 botanicals. Nine are classic gin ingredients such as juniper, and the other 22 are hand foraged on Islay, a mix of local berries, barks, seeds and peels. It is distilled in a Lomond still nicknamed Ugly Betty, in a slow run of about 17 hours, roughly three times longer than a traditional gin distillation, and made with Islay spring water. It is bottled at 46%, so it is a little stronger than many gins.

The brand's own serve is a Botanist and tonic, and the gin is also built for a Dry Martini or a Negroni. Serve it cold over plenty of ice.
