Glenfiddich 14YO Bourbon Barrel

The whisky spends 14 years in casks that previously held bourbon. It is then moved into new, deeply charred American oak barrels for a finishing period. Those new barrels came from the Kelvin Cooperage, a family-run cooperage in Louisville, Kentucky. The fresh oak adds vanilla and toasted wood on top of the malt. It is bottled at 43 per cent, and the box is deep navy, inspired by the Kentucky state flag.

In the glass it shows vanilla, citrus, caramelised brown sugar and cinnamon, with baked apple and summer fruit behind. The palate is creamy toffee, woody spice and candied orange peel, and the finish is long and sweet. Drink it neat to start, add a small splash of water if you want it softer, or pour it over a large cube of ice. The toffee and spice also make it a good base for an Old Fashioned.
