CitrusHerbalPā Road is made by te Pā, a Marlborough wine company that began when Haysley MacDonald planted vines on his family's land at the Wairau Bar in 2003. The family traces its lineage back 800 years to the early Māori explorers who first landed there, and the vineyard is still on that stretch of coast near Blenheim. Pā Road is one of two value ranges, alongside Koha, that sit next to the te Pā label.
The wine is 100% Sauvignon Blanc from Marlborough, bottled under screwcap. Expect citrus and tropical fruit, with lemongrass, passionfruit and guava coming through in some vintages, fresh acidity, a hint of herbal edge and a crisp, clean finish.
Serve it cold with seafood, particularly shellfish, or with a fresh summer salad and soft goat cheese. It is a fresh, straightforward white, so keep a bottle in the fridge ready to pour.
