The story of Taittinger Brut Res

Under the city of Reims, the Taittinger cellars sit in the Abbey of Saint-Nicaise, in chalk pits dug in Gallo-Roman times. The house dates its origins to 1734, when Jacques Fourneaux began trading wine in Champagne. The family name arrived in 1932, when Pierre Taittinger bought the Château de la Marquetterie from the Forest-Fourneaux house. Vitalie Taittinger has been president since 2020.

Brut Réserve is the house's core non-vintage cuvée. Chardonnay makes up 40 per cent of the blend, with 35 per cent Pinot Noir and 25 per cent Meunier, a Chardonnay share the house calls rare for a non-vintage brut. Taittinger builds its style on Chardonnay for energy, minerality and finesse, and here it gives a fresh, elegant wine with fine bubbles and a delicate fruit and honey aroma.

The house recommends most of its Champagnes at 8 to 10 degrees. A tulip-shaped glass lets the fruit and honey aroma open, while a flute keeps the bubbles tighter, so pick the glass to suit the way you like it.
