The story of Langmeil BS Cab Sauv

Langmeil is a Barossa Valley winery on the edge of Tanunda, at the corner of Langmeil Road and Para Road. It was established in 1996 and is owned and run by the Lindner family, with Paul Lindner as chief winemaker. The site was once an important trading post, and it is home to The Freedom 1843 Shiraz vineyard, which may be the oldest surviving Shiraz vineyard in the world.

The Blacksmith Cabernet Sauvignon sits in a range whose specialities are Shiraz, Cabernet Sauvignon, Grenache and Riesling. Paul Lindner works with minimal handling and filtration to keep the fruit in front, and the wine is matured in French oak.

The winery describes bright, rich berry fruit with brambly spice and hints of black olive and liquorice. The body is full, the tannins are velvety and fine grained, and the finish is long and spicy, with blackcurrant at the centre.

Serve it at cellar temperature with a rib eye, roast lamb or slow cooked beef. A young bottle benefits from an hour in a decanter.
