Juniper · citrus · botanical finish
Tanqueray No Ten 1L features ultra premium gin distilled with fresh citrus fruits. This refined gin delivers bright flavour and smooth finish.
Tanqueray No. Ten was launched in 2000 and takes its name from the Tiny Ten, a small pot still dating from the 1930s that began life as an experimental or trial-run still. Unlike the bigger stills around it, Tiny Ten is heated by a steam jacket. The gin is made at the Cameronbridge distillery in Fife, Scotland.
The recipe sets it apart from the rest of the range. Wheat neutral spirit is distilled in the Tiny Ten with fresh, hand-chopped Florida oranges, Mexican limes and grapefruits, which produces what the distillers call the citrus heart. That spirit goes to a second, larger still with juniper, coriander, angelica, liquorice, chamomile flowers and quartered fresh limes.
The nose is spruce-like juniper with pink grapefruit and chamomile. On the palate juniper sits alongside freshly squeezed lemon, orange and pink grapefruit, with a little white pepper, and the finish is long and creamy. No. Ten was aimed at the martini market, and it makes a fine one with a twist of citrus. For a long drink, use a premium tonic, plenty of ice and a slice of pink grapefruit.
