A Lowland single malt Scotch, triple distilled and aged in American oak and sherry casks, with caramel, toasted almond and citrus notes.
Vanilla & caramelCitrusHoneyOakAuchentoshan has been distilling at Dalmuir, on the edge of Clydebank at the foot of the Kilpatrick Hills, since 1823, when corn merchant John Bulloch built the distillery. The name comes from the Gaelic Achadh an Oisein, meaning corner field. It is a Lowland single malt distillery and is now owned by Suntory.
What sets it apart is triple distillation, a step that is unusual in Scotland. The distillery says every drop is triple distilled, with the spirit passing through a third still before it goes into a cask. The 12 year old is matured in two kinds of wood, ex-bourbon American oak and Spanish oloroso sherry oak, and is bottled at 40%.
The distillery describes pastry sweetness and citrus peel, with oak, tangerine and lime, and a ginger finish. Pour it neat to taste the whisky as it is, or over ice if you want it colder and softer. The distillery also points to cocktails, and the citrus and ginger notes give a bartender plenty to work with.
