The story of Ratu Signature 8YO Rum Liqueur
Ratu Signature Blend is the eight year old rum liqueur from the Rum Co. of Fiji, made from hand cut sugar cane grown in Fiji's volcanic soil and the island's local water.
The base is 100 per cent column still rum, aged for a minimum of eight years in charred ex-bourbon American oak casks and finished with mocha oak chips. It is bottled at 35 per cent. Ratu is the company's premium line, with five, eight and ten year old bottlings, and the Signature Blend sits in the middle of that range.
The aroma is zesty orange, dark chocolate and coffee. The palate is velvety, with coconut and spiced oak, and a fresh citrus note lingers on the finish. The makers pitch the range for sipping neat or for premium mixing. Over ice with a strip of orange peel brings the citrus forward, and cola or ginger beer stretches it into a long drink.
