The story of 1800 Anejo Tequila

1800 Añejo is where the brand began. It launched in 1967, the first of the 1800 labels, and was sold as a sipping tequila long before the Silver and Reposado were added. The family behind it, the Beckmanns, also owns Jose Cuervo, and the tequila is made and bottled in Jalisco.

The tequila is 100 per cent agave and spends at least 14 months in French and American oak barrels. That is a long rest by the standards of the range, and the wood leaves its mark on both colour and flavour.

Expect vanilla, caramel and ripe banana on the nose, then cinnamon, candied pear, butterscotch and sweet oak on the palate, with caramelised agave underneath. The finish is creamy, with cocoa, banana bread and a gentle warmth that lingers.

This one is made for the end of a meal. Serve it at room temperature in a short glass and take your time.
