A medium dry, Alsace style pinot gris with mouthfilling body and flavours of stone fruit, pear and spice. Partly barrel fermented.
Stone fruitWarm spiceBabich is a family winery with a story that runs back a century, and its Marlborough Pinot Gris is made from vineyards spread across the region, including the Waihopai and Wairau valleys.
The fruit gets some skin contact before pressing, and part of the juice is stirred on its lees for 48 hours to build mouthfeel. Fermentation is in stainless steel, there is no malolactic fermentation, and the wine finishes dry in style, with a little over six grams of sugar per litre.
Ginger, lychee, pear, lime blossom and nutmeg show on the nose. The palate is sweet apple, pear and apricot, with a mineral note and a soft, elegant finish. It is also vegan friendly.
Serve it cold with roast pork belly and a spiced apple and pear chutney, or with a pumpkin and ginger laksa topped with crispy tofu.
