The story of Brown Bros Prosecco

Brown Brothers Prosecco is a non-vintage sparkling wine made from grapes grown in the cool-climate King Valley in Victoria. Brown Brothers released its first Prosecco in 2010, made from fruit from its Banksdale vineyard, which sits 485 metres up in the valley. The winery describes the King Valley as the closest region in Australia, climatically, to north-east Italy.

The bubbles come from the tank method. After the first fermentation, the wine is fermented again in a pressure tank to 5 atmospheres and then bottled so it keeps its fizz. This one is 11.5 percent alcohol.

It is straw coloured with subtle green hues. The nose is delicate apple and pear, and the palate is soft and citrusy, with a floral, honeysuckle lightness that lingers.

This is a wine made to be drunk young and fresh, so open it soon rather than cellaring it. Sushi, sashimi and light salty snacks suit it well, and it also works with fresh seafood and fruit.
