The story of Chambord Liqueur

Chambord is a French black raspberry liqueur made in the Loire Valley. It takes its name from the Château de Chambord, and its recipe is based on a raspberry liqueur made in the Loire in the late 1600s. The modern liqueur was launched in the early 1980s by Norton "Sky" Cooper at his family's drinks company, Charles Jacquin et Cie. Brown-Forman has owned the brand since 2006.

The method starts with black and red raspberries steeped in neutral spirit for up to six weeks. A second and third extraction follow, and the three batches are combined and blended with XO cognac, Madagascan vanilla, Moroccan citrus peel and honey. The finished liqueur is 16.5% alcohol, sweet and full of ripe berry flavour. The round bottle is modelled on a globus cruciger, the orb used as a Christian symbol in the Middle Ages, and this 50ml miniature carries the same design on a small scale.

The brand's own cocktail list gives plenty of ideas, including the French Martini, the Chambord Mimosa, the Chambord Royale, a Chambord and tonic and a Chambord spritz.
