The story of Cinzano Prosecco DOC

Cinzano is one of Italy's oldest drinks houses. Its history goes back to 1757, when brothers Giovanni Giacomo and Carlo Stefano Cinzano set up as distillers in the Turin area of Piedmont. The house is best known for its vermouth, while this Prosecco DOC comes from the Treviso hills in the Veneto.

Prosecco is made mainly from the Glera grape, and the DOC rules allow up to 15 per cent of other permitted varieties. It is usually given its second fermentation in large stainless steel tanks rather than in the bottle, which keeps the wine fresh and fruity. This one is 11 per cent alcohol, straw yellow in the glass, with floral aromas and green apple and pear on the palate.

Serve it well chilled, at around 4 to 6 degrees. Cinzano positions it as an aperitivo, and it is a natural base for an Aperol Spritz. It also suits a light brunch or a first course, and the fresh fruit style works with salty snacks such as olives and cured meats.
