The story of Chivas Regal 12YO

Chivas Regal grew out of a grocery and wine business in Aberdeen. James and John Chivas moved from an Aberdeenshire farm to the city in 1836, James became a partner in the firm, and it later took the name Chivas Brothers. Master blender Charles Stewart Howard created the first Chivas Regal in 1909 as a 25 year old blend, and a 12 year old version followed, debuting in the United States in 1939.

The heart of every Chivas Regal blend is Strathisla single malt, made at the Strathisla distillery in Keith, Moray. Founded in 1786, it is described as the oldest continuously operating distillery in the Highlands. Other malts and Lowland grain whisky make up the rest, and Pernod Ricard has owned Chivas Brothers since 2001. The 12 year old is bottled at 40 per cent and is known for wild herbs, heather and orchard fruit on the nose, then honey, vanilla and ripe apple on a round, creamy palate with a warm finish.

Enjoy it neat, on the rocks with a small splash of water, or in a cocktail such as a Pineapple Gold Rush.
