A New Zealand Shiraz with ripe berry fruit, blackberry and pepper spice, a smooth texture and soft tannins.
Dark berriesWarm spiceEarthworks is a Barossa Valley label from South Australia, and it began in 2003 as a partnership of Barossa winegrowing families. The Lindner and Bitter families started it, and the first release was the Earthworks Barossa Shiraz 2003. Today the label works with more than 20 family vineyards across the valley, and some of the growers are in their second to fifth generation on the land.
The Hill-Smith family, who are also behind Yalumba, took an equity stake in the business, and the wines are crushed, blended and bottled by them at their winery in Angaston. The Shiraz is destemmed, fermented cool to hold the fruit and keep the tannins soft, and matured with French oak for a little spice. Expect plum, blackberry and dark cherry, with vanilla, mocha and black pepper, and a smooth finish.
Serve it just below room temperature. It is a straightforward red for steak, slow cooked beef, lamb, barbecue and hard cheese.
