The story of Graham Nortons Shiraz

Graham Norton's Own Shiraz is an Australian red that the presenter blends himself with the winemakers at Invivo, the Auckland wine company behind his whole range. The first release, from the 2015 vintage, drew on fruit from three South Australian regions: the Barossa Valley, McLaren Vale and Langhorne Creek.

The blend was not left to chance. Invivo put together six or seven samples from across South Australia, and Graham tasted them and picked the one he liked best. That hands-on approach carries through the range, and Norton and the Invivo winemakers still blend each vintage together.

In the glass the style is ripe and full. Expect blackberry and toasty oak on the nose, a mouthful of dark fruit, and tannins that are velvety rather than grippy.

It is a red for slow food. Braised beef cheeks, lamb shoulder or sausages off the barbecue all have enough richness to stand up to it. Open the bottle a little before dinner so the oak settles and the fruit comes forward.
