The story of Terra Sancta Mysters P/N

Terra Sancta is a winery on Felton Road in Bannockburn, Central Otago, and its first vineyard was planted in 1991. The winery says its Slapjack block holds the first vines planted in Bannockburn, a district first settled in 1862 during the gold rush.

That gold history gave this wine its name. Local children gave the old Bannockburn diggings the name Mysterious Diggings, and the winery borrowed it for its highest-altitude vineyard. The site sits at about 300 metres on steep slopes of fragile sandy soil that drains well and resists compaction.

The wine is 100% Bannockburn Pinot Noir, fermented with 100% native yeasts. The winery calls it expressive and well balanced, with clear, vibrant fruit, and says it is instantly approachable. It can be drunk now or cellared for one to six years.

Serve it lightly cooled on a warm evening, or at cellar temperature on a cool one. It works with duck breast, roast chicken, a mushroom and thyme risotto, or a board of charcuterie and a soft washed-rind cheese.
