The story of Curious Garden Dry Gin
Curious Garden is a New Zealand gin made at The Spirits Workshop in Christchurch. The distillery sits in Sydenham, makes Curiosity Gin and Divergence Whisky, and runs distillery tours and a cocktail bar at Riverside Market. Curious Garden is its tribute to New Zealand's gardeners, from backyard growers and community gardens to botanical gardens and city parks.
The Dry Gin is the classic style of the range, bottled at 40 per cent with a cork stopper. Juniper leads, as it should in any dry gin, with a soft lift of citrus and a light, bright spice behind it. It is exceptionally smooth rather than sharp, built from a cornucopia of botanicals.
That balance makes it a sound all-round gin. Build a gin and tonic over plenty of ice with a wedge of lemon or grapefruit, or a long strip of cucumber for something greener. It also holds its shape in a martini or a Tom Collins, and the same distillery uses the Curious Garden spirits in cocktails such as a tropical martini and an espresso martini.
