The story of Langmeil VF Shiraz

Langmeil Valley Floor Shiraz is 100 percent Shiraz blended from fruit right across the Barossa, with the core of the blend coming from the valley floor. Instead of coming from a single estate vineyard, it draws on more than forty local family growers, some of them fifth and sixth generation Barossa grape growers.

That spread gives the winemakers a lot to blend. Vines in the mix run from young plantings to well over a century old, and the soils range from deep sand and red clay to decomposed granite and black clay. The fruit is fermented and basket pressed, then aged for around two years in American and French oak hogsheads, most of them seasoned and only a small share new.

The nose is rich and lifted, with Satsuma plum, mulberry and floral notes, sweet spice, chocolate and a savoury hint. The palate is medium to full bodied, with mocha, bramble and vanilla and a peppery, spicy finish.

Langmeil suggests stir-fried beef with basil, American style slow cooked ribs, a Sunday roast or a wedge of mature Cheddar.
