The story of Lavau CDR Vint Tour

Maison Lavau was created in 1965 by Jean-Guy Lavau and his wife Anne-Marie, who took over a small winemaking cellar in Sablet, in the Rhône Valley. The family's wine story is older than that. It began in Saint-Émilion in the nineteenth century and carried on in Tunisia, where René Lavau and his son built a large wine business, before the family came back to France in the 1960s.

About thirty years after the founding, Frédéric and Benoît Lavau joined the house, which grew from a winemaker into a producer with its own cuvées. Today it works with more than 250 winegrowers, has vinified most of the southern Rhône appellations, and is based at Violès. Vintage Tour is the range for its appellation reds, running from Côtes du Rhône up to Vacqueyras, Rasteau, Gigondas and Châteauneuf-du-Pape.

This is the Côtes du Rhône red, a Grenache and Syrah wine of about 13.5 percent alcohol. It shows ripe red and dark fruit with some spice and a touch of garrigue, the dry herbs of the southern scrub, and the tannins are soft. It suits grilled red meat, charcuterie, braised dishes and roast poultry, and it is best at around 16 to 18 degrees, so give it a short rest out of the cellar or rack.
