The story of Mollydooker Boxer Shiraz

In Australian slang a mollydooker is a left hander, and in the ring it is the boxer who leads with the left. The Boxer Shiraz takes its name from that, and it was named for a knockout wine. Within the range it is the entry level Shiraz, made in McLaren Vale at the winery that Sarah Marquis owns today.

The Boxer is matured in 100% American oak, which accounts for the mocha, vanilla and sweet spice sitting over plum, blackberry, blueberry and black cherry. It is full bodied and dry, with a lush, velvety palate, fine tannins and 15.5% alcohol.

This is a wine that benefits from air, so decant it for 30 to 60 minutes before serving. Grilled ribeye, slow cooked beef ribs, smoky barbecued brisket and lamb chops all suit its weight, and it is just as happy beside a tomato based pasta bake or a spicy sausage.
