The story of Steinlager Classic 24x330B

Steinlager began in 1958, when the Black Budget put imported premium beers out of reach and New Zealand Breweries, now part of Lion, set about brewing a lager of its own. It launched as Steinecker, named after the company that supplied the brewing equipment, and became Steinlager in 1962.

Classic is a 5 per cent pale lager brewed by Lion in East Tāmaki, Auckland. Its hop character comes from Green Bullet, a variety grown in Nelson at 41 degrees latitude, and it shows as fresh-cut grass on the nose, a full body, and a dry, tangy finish with a crisp, clean bitterness. Steinlager reached the United States and Japan in the 1970s and has since become one of New Zealand's largest beer exporters. It also sponsored New Zealand's America's Cup challenges in 1986, 1992 and 1995.

Pour it cold. The dry finish and clean bitterness cope well with barbecued steak, lamb chops, hot chips and meat pies, and they also suit spicy dishes. This case holds twenty-four 330ml bottles.
