The story of Glenlivet 12YO
The Glenlivet 12 Year Old is the core Speyside single malt from a distillery built beside Josie's Well, a natural spring that still supplies its production water. This is the one litre bottle, bottled at 40%.
Time in a mix of American and European oak gives it its easy style, with the American wood adding vanilla and smoothness. Pineapple leads, backed by orange and lime, honey and soft vanilla, with apple and a touch of caramel underneath. The finish is creamy, with marzipan and fresh hazelnuts. There is nothing heavy about it, which is why it suits more than one way of drinking.
Have it neat with a splash of water if you like. It also takes soda well: build it over ice in a highball with chilled soda, finished with a twist of lemon peel. Roasted hazelnuts alongside pick up the finish.
