The story of Boodles Gin

Boodles dates to 1845 and takes its name from Boodle's, the gentlemen's club in St James's, London, founded in 1762. It was bottled in the United States by Seagram's, passed to Pernod Ricard around 2000, and was bought by Proximo Spirits in 2012. The brand returned to the United Kingdom in October 2013 with a redesigned bottle, and the recipe was left untouched.

The gin is made in Warrington, in north-west England. What sets it apart is the botanical list: juniper, coriander seed, angelica root and seed, cassia bark, caraway, nutmeg, rosemary and sage, and no citrus at all, which is unusual for a London dry. That gives a more herbal, woody and spiced gin than the lemon led style. This bottle is 40%.

Because of that herbal edge, a classic gin and tonic with a sprig of rosemary or a slice of green apple suits it better than a lemon wedge. It also holds its own in a dry martini or a Negroni.
