The story of Brown Bros Moscato Rosa

Brown Brothers Moscato Rosa is a sweet pink Moscato from Victoria, made from Muscat of Alexandria with a small amount of a red grape called Cienna added for colour. It is bottled soon after fermentation and is made to be drunk young and fresh, with a light sparkle.

Cienna is the unusual part. It was bred by CSIRO, Australia's national science agency, from a cross of Spain's Sumoll and Cabernet Sauvignon, first pollinated in 1972 by Alan Antcliff. Brown Brothers, the family winery at Milawa, is known for working with uncommon and novel varieties, and it describes Cienna as unique to the company.

In the glass it is a bright strawberry pink. The nose runs to rose petals, red berries and freshly crushed grapes with a spicy, musky perfume, and the palate is fruity and bright, with enough acidity to keep the sweetness fresh.

Serve it well chilled. Brown Brothers suggests raspberry white chocolate, nougat or Turkish delight, or Peking duck spring rolls with hoisin sauce, and a wedge of pear wrapped in prosciutto also works.
