The story of Dog Point SauvB

Dog Point Sauvignon Blanc is a dry, unoaked Marlborough white made from fruit grown in eight of the estate's own vineyards in the Wairau Valley. It is one of just four wines the family estate makes, alongside a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc called Section 94, a Chardonnay and a Pinot Noir.

Marlborough is one of New Zealand's sunniest and driest regions, and big swings between warm days and cool nights let the grapes ripen slowly. The vines are cropped at about 10 tonnes per hectare and the fruit is picked by hand, then whole-bunch pressed and cold settled. Part of the wine is fermented with indigenous yeast, and it spends five months in stainless steel tanks before being bottled without fining.

In the glass it shows lime, grapefruit and a little gooseberry with a delicate herbal edge. The palate is citrus and green apple, with a fine texture, lively saline acidity and a lingering mineral finish.

Drink it as a pre-dinner aperitif, or with simple fresh seafood such as scallops, prawns or smoked trout.
