The story of Garage Project Hatsukoi 330C

Hatsukoi is Japanese for first love, and it is Garage Project's Japanese-inspired pilsner, first released in August 2016 with a label by artist Kumiko Matsumoto. The brewery files it under the style name Neo Tokyo lager.

It is brewed from light malted barley and rice, using the traditional first press method. At 5% ABV it is no heavyweight, and the brewery's own tasting note is short and to the point: clean, crisp, with a delicate noble hop character. Nothing here is trying to shout over your dinner, and the small can keeps it easy to pair with a few different dishes in one sitting.

That makes it an easy match for Japanese food. Think karaage chicken with a squeeze of lemon, a platter of salmon and tuna sashimi, vegetable tempura, or yakitori skewers glazed in tare.

It comes as a single 330ml can, a smaller serve that suits a lighter beer well.
