The story of Mionetto Prosecco DOC

Mionetto has been making Prosecco since 1887 in the hills around Valdobbiadene in the Veneto, where Francesco Mionetto founded the winery. It joined the Henkell group in 2008 but still keeps its ties to its home region.

This Prosecco DOC is made from Glera, the grape Italy renamed in 2009 so that Prosecco names the place rather than the variety. The DOC covers nine provinces across Veneto and Friuli-Venezia Giulia. The second fermentation takes place in a sealed stainless steel tank, the Charmat-Martinotti method, which keeps the wine fresh and fruity rather than yeasty. Expect green apple, pear, white flowers and a hint of citrus, light in body and crisp in acidity, with fine bubbles.

Prosecco is made to be drunk young, so open a bottle within a year or two of buying it. Keep it in the fridge and pour it before a meal with light appetisers, or alongside fish and vegetable dishes.
